Statutory status

The Institute is an Institute of National Importance under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It is governed by the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017, which empowers it to design its curriculum and to award its own degrees. The MBA awarded through PGPM, PGPM-HR and PGPBM is a degree of the Institute itself and is presented at its annual convocation.

International accreditation

The flagship PGPM, PGPM-HR and PGPBM programmes carry accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA), an international body that assesses management programmes on curriculum, faculty, student quality and outcomes, and the Institute was recently re-accredited. IIM Tiruchirappalli is also a member of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which signals the Institute's commitment to global standards in management education.
