About Indian Institute of Management Ranchi
Indian Institute of Management Ranchi (IIM Ranchi) is a public business school established in 2009 as the ninth IIM in India, with mentoring support from IIM Calcutta and the Government of Jharkhand. It is an Institute of National Importance under the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017, which gives it autonomy over its curriculum, admissions and degrees. The institute is part of the second generation of IIMs and is separate from the newer IIMs set up after 2015. Its campus is at Prabandhan Nagar, Nayasarai, on the outskirts of Ranchi, about 12 km from Ranchi Airport and Ranchi Railway Station.

Indian Institute of Management Ranchi - Overview
IIM Ranchi was the first IIM to introduce a dedicated MBA specialisation in Human Resource Management. Today its post-graduate portfolio has three two-year full-time residential programmes, namely the MBA, the MBA-HR and the MBA in Business Analytics, along with a part-time Executive MBA, a five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) for Class 12 graduates, and the Ph.D. and Executive Ph.D. programmes. The institute is accredited by AMBA and is a member of AACSB, EFMD Global and PRME.

The learning model is built on the case method, simulations, live projects and a curriculum-wide initiative called Working with AI, in which discipline-specific AI projects replace traditional mid-term examinations. Students also take a Social Impact Practicum linked to the Sustainable Development Goals and complete an eight-week summer internship. The academic year follows a trimester system with six terms over two years, and end-term examinations are held every five to six weeks.
Admission to the MBA, MBA-HR and MBA-BA for 2026-28 runs through the Joint Admission Process shared with IIM Kashipur, IIM Raipur and IIM Tiruchirappalli. Candidates register after CAT results, are shortlisted for a common Personal Interview, and then receive offers from IIM Ranchi through a Consolidated Merit List. The total programme fee is Rs. 19.20 lakh and includes hostel charges, while mess is paid separately.
Campus life includes twin-sharing hostel rooms, a bank with ATM, a supermarket, a gym, a 24-hour cafe, a post office, Wi-Fi, a library and reading room, an all-night canteen, laundry and a medical centre. A shuttle bus runs until 9 pm to Argora Chowk, and app-based taxis are easily available.
