CLAT Predictor FAQs

What is CLAT and who conducts it?

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Consortium of National Law Universities (NLUs). It is the gateway to admissions in 25 NLUs across India for 5-year integrated UG law programs (BA LLB, BBA LLB, BSc LLB, BCom LLB) and 1-year LLM programs.

How does this CLAT predictor work?

Enter your CLAT All India Rank (AIR), select your category and preferred program. The predictor compares your rank against historical closing ranks from NLU counselling data across all years (2021โ€“2026) and returns colleges where your rank falls within or close to the closing rank.

What is the difference between opening rank and closing rank in CLAT?

Opening rank is the best (lowest) rank at which seat allotment started for a given NLU/category. Closing rank is the worst (highest) rank that still received a seat in that round. If your rank is below (better than) the closing rank, you have a chance of admission.

How many NLUs participate in CLAT counselling?

As of 2026, 25 National Law Universities participate in the CLAT counselling process conducted by the Consortium of NLUs. NLSIU Bangalore, NALSAR Hyderabad, WBNUJS Kolkata, NLU Jodhpur, and NLIU Bhopal are among the most sought-after.

What is a good CLAT rank for top NLUs?

For NLSIU Bangalore (rank 1), a General category AIR within 112 is needed. NALSAR Hyderabad requires within 159, WBNUJS Kolkata within 327, and NLIU Bhopal within 480 (based on 2026 data). Cutoffs vary each year based on difficulty and candidate pool.

Does category affect CLAT college prediction?

Yes. NLUs have reserved seats for SC, ST, OBC (NCL), EWS, and PWD categories. Closing ranks for reserved categories are generally higher (less competitive) than General category. Always check your category-wise cutoff for accurate predictions.

Are there domicile or state quota seats in NLUs?

Yes. Many NLUs reserve a portion of seats for state domicile candidates from the state where the NLU is located. These domicile quota closing ranks are usually much higher than the All-India merit cutoffs. Check the official NLU/Consortium website for state quota details.

What happens if I miss CLAT Round 1 cutoff?

CLAT counselling typically has 2โ€“3 rounds (merit lists). If you miss Round 1, candidates who received better colleges or opted out vacate seats in later rounds, making cutoffs progressively higher. Always participate in all rounds to maximize your chances.
