About Executive MBA
An Executive MBA (EMBA) is a 1–2 year postgraduate management program designed for working professionals, typically requiring several years of prior work experience. It covers the same core management disciplines as a regular MBA but is delivered in a weekend, modular, or part-time format so candidates can continue working while they study.
Admission usually depends on a combination of work experience (commonly 5+ years), CAT / XAT / GMAT scores or an institute's own executive aptitude test, and a personal interview — with less emphasis on the entrance score alone than a regular MBA. The program covers core strategy and leadership subjects first, followed by an elective specialization and a capstone project.

Executive MBA Entrance Exams
Executive MBA admissions weigh work experience and interview performance more heavily than a single entrance score, but most institutes still require CAT, XAT, or GMAT — or an in-house executive aptitude test. Here's a quick look at what's relevant.
CAT
Common Admission Test
Accepted by several top Executive MBA programs (including IIM Executive MBA/PGPX tracks) alongside work-experience evaluation and interview rounds.
XAT
Xavier Aptitude Test
Used by XLRI and several other institutes for Executive MBA/PGDM admissions, testing decision-making, quantitative ability, and verbal reasoning.
GMAT
Graduate Management Admission Test
Commonly accepted by Executive MBA programs with a global or international cohort focus, often in place of CAT/XAT for working professionals.
