NBMCH super-specialty departments include Cardiology, Paediatric Surgery, Gastroenterology, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Facio Maxillary, and Dialysis. Additionally, NBMCH was selected under MoHFW scheme (with Bankura Sammilani MC) for 166 beds in Neurosurgery and CTVS — expanding super-specialty infrastructure significantly.

NBMCH was established on November 18, 1968, by Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy — the legendary physician-statesman and Chief Minister of West Bengal who envisioned modern healthcare access for North Bengal. Originally named North Bengal University Medical College (NBUMC), it was renamed in 1978 to North Bengal Medical College and Hospital.

72 PG seats in 16 disciplines: 61 MD across multiple specialties + 11 MS/Diploma. PG courses began in 2004. NEET-PG AIQ and WB State Quota cutoffs available from MBBSCouncil app.

IIRF 2024: 5th in West Bengal, 103rd in India. 80% placement rate. Highest package: ₹20–30 LPA. Minimum (training period): ₹15–18 LPA. PG graduates achieve higher specialist roles (₹20–30 LPA). Government health service positions, NEET-PG/NEXT specialisation, private hospitals, and research paths all available.
