NAMC was established in 2002 under the Nangelil Charitable Trust (Reg. No. SR/P/3-2001), following Government of Kerala sanction via G.O.M.S. No. 225/H&FWD dated 28.08.2002 and original CCIM approval vide F.No.4-10/2002/Ay(1) dated 22.07.2002.

NAMC is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur, from the 2010-11 academic year onwards. It was previously affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, from 2001-02 to 2009-10.

Nangelil Ayurveda Hospital holds NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers) accreditation, distinguishing it as one of the few Ayurvedic teaching hospitals in Kerala with independently verified quality standards. The Nangelil name refers to the legendary ancestral tradition of marma chikitsa in Kerala, creating a new dimension in orthopaedic management by incorporating modern diagnostic methods with a scientific approach. Dr. Vijayan Nangelil, the Managing Director and Secretary of Nangelil Charitable Trust, is a recognised doyen in this classical Kerala healing tradition.
