MRMC was established in 1963 when the Karnataka Government decided to set up its state medical college in Bellary instead of Gulbarga — depriving the underserved HK region of a medical institution. The Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society, under Sri Mahadevappa Rampure, stepped in to establish a private medical college.
