Jabalpur Engineering College (JEC) Jabalpur - Overview

JEC is known for being the first institute in India to award a B.E. in Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, a programme it has offered since 1947. It runs on a campus of roughly 255 acres with department buildings, laboratories, workshops, hostels, a library and sports grounds in a single estate. Heritage buildings from the early years still house some departments, while newer blocks such as the AI and Mechatronics building add modern teaching space.

The college offers B.E./B.Tech in nine branches, M.E./M.Tech in ten specialisations, MCA, M.Sc in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and Ph.D programmes. Admission to undergraduate courses is through JEE Main with JoSAA and DTE MP counselling, while M.E./M.Tech admission is based on GATE. The total B.E./B.Tech tuition fee is Rs. 89,200 for four years, which is far lower than most private engineering colleges.

Students choose JEC mainly for its low fees, long history, supportive faculty and the chance to study core engineering branches at a government institution. Facilities such as labs and some buildings are older, so applicants should visit the campus and speak to current students about the department they prefer.

Placements are led by the Training and Placement Cell, with recruiters including L&T, Ericsson, HCLTech, TCS, Tech Mahindra, IBM, Reliance Jio, Infosys and Wipro. Many graduates also move into higher studies, GATE-based PSU roles and state engineering services.
