About H.B.T. Medical College & Dr. R.N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital, Juhu, Mumbai

Official website

Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Medical College & Dr. Rustom Narsi Cooper Municipal General Hospital (HBT Medical College / HBTMC) is a government medical college established in 2015 in Juhu, Mumbai. It is owned and operated by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (MCGM) — one of four BMC-run medical colleges in Mumbai alongside Grant Medical College (State Govt.), Seth G.S. Medical College (Sion), Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, and Topiwala National Medical College (Nair). Named after Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray — the founder of Shiv Sena — the college is affiliated to MUHS Nashik and approved by NMC. Dr. R.N. Cooper Hospital's history dates to 1969, when it started as a maternity home, became a full general hospital in 1970, and was completely reconstructed after the original building was declared unfit in 1999. The newly redeveloped Cooper Hospital was inaugurated on 30/11/2013 and upgraded into a medical college in 2015. The campus spans 15 acres in Juhu, Mumbai — one of Mumbai's most premium residential areas — featuring modern classrooms, lecture halls, anatomy and skills labs, digital classrooms, library, sports areas, cafeteria, and hostel facilities. The teaching hospital — Dr. R.N. Cooper Municipal General Hospital — is a 715-bed tertiary care hospital with 3,000+ outpatients per day, 70.25% bed occupancy ratio, and 24×7 emergency services. The college offers 200 MBBS seats and MD/MS PG programmes. PG stipend: INR 92,522–94,151/month (one of the highest in Maharashtra). PG bond penalty: INR 50 lakh. During NEET 2021–2024 combined counselling, 32 candidates were allotted seats at HBT Medical College.
