The Directorate General of Medical Education and Training, Uttar Pradesh (DGME UP) is scheduled to publish the UP NEET UG 2026 Round 1 State Merit List today, Wednesday, September 2, 2026, on the official counselling portal, upneet.gov.in. The list will carry the state merit rank of every candidate who completed registration, document verification and security deposit for the first round of Uttar Pradesh's MBBS and BDS counselling. For lakhs of NEET UG 2026 qualified candidates hoping to secure a state quota medical or dental seat in Uttar Pradesh, this rank list is the gateway to the next stage of admission: choice filling.

UP NEET UG 2026 Merit List: Latest Update

According to the revised counselling schedule notified by DGME UP, the window for online registration and document upload, originally open from August 7 to August 12, 2026, was extended till 2:00 PM on September 2, 2026. Candidates were allowed to deposit their registration fee and security money until 3:00 PM the same day. The directorate has confirmed that the Round 1 state merit list for MBBS and BDS admission will go live on upneet.gov.in sometime after 3:00 PM today, though an exact time has not been announced. DGME UP has not yet released the choice filling and locking schedule; that is expected to be notified once the merit list is out and the seat matrix for participating government and private colleges is finalised.

Background: Why the UP NEET Counselling Schedule Was Revised

This year's admission cycle has been unusually stretched. NEET UG 2026 was first conducted on May 3, 2026, but the National Testing Agency cancelled the exam on May 12 following reports of a paper leak. A fresh exam, referred to as Re-NEET UG 2026, was held on June 21, 2026, and around 20 lakh candidates appeared for it. NTA declared the result along with the category wise qualifying cutoff on July 16, 2026. The qualifying range for the General and EWS category stood at 715 to 213 marks, the 50th percentile, while OBC, SC and ST candidates needed to clear the 40th percentile, translating to a range of 212 to 177 marks. Over 11.21 lakh candidates qualified nationally. Because the exam calendar shifted by nearly two months compared with a typical year, every subsequent stage of counselling, including Uttar Pradesh's state quota process, has moved later than usual, with DGME UP repeatedly extending its registration window to accommodate the delayed national timeline set by the Medical Counselling Committee.

Official Information and Seat Matrix

DGME UP conducts counselling for 85 percent of state quota seats in government and private medical and dental colleges of Uttar Pradesh, along with 100 percent of the open management quota, while the remaining 15 percent of seats in government colleges are filled centrally by the Medical Counselling Committee under the All India Quota. The seat matrix for Round 1, 2026, listing the government and private MBBS and BDS colleges participating this year along with category wise seat availability, is expected to be released alongside or shortly after the merit list. Candidates are advised to cross check any college or seat number they come across on unofficial platforms against the seat matrix DGME UP eventually publishes.

Comparing With Last Year's UP NEET UG Counselling

Comparing this cycle with the previous one offers useful context, even though this year's exact numbers are yet to be confirmed by DGME UP. In the 2025 session, the revised UP NEET UG merit list found 32,230 candidates eligible for state counselling, competing for roughly 13,093 MBBS and BDS seats spread across 110 government and private medical and dental colleges in Uttar Pradesh. Round 1 seat allotment that year was announced within about a week of the merit list going live. If DGME UP follows a similar timeline in 2026, choice filling, locking and the Round 1 seat allotment result could realistically be expected within the following one to two weeks, although the directorate has not committed to specific dates for this cycle.
